TROUBLESHOOTING
Troubleshooting
What to do when a site will not load in a canvas, including pages behind a login, localhost, bot protection and password-protected stores.
Notemark loads the live site inside the canvas through a proxy, so reviewers comment on the real page. Some pages cannot be loaded that way. The browser extension works on all of them.
The canvas shows "Site Protected"
The site uses bot protection that blocks the proxy. Use the browser extension to comment on the live page instead. If you already have it, click Open with Extension or click the extension icon on that page.
The canvas shows "Loading Timed Out" or "Failed to Load"
The site did not answer, or refused the connection. It may be down, blocking requests or asking for a login. Click Try again. If it keeps failing, use the browser extension.
A site's own 404 page is shown as normal, so a page that does not exist looks the same as it does in your browser.
Pages behind a login
The proxy does not sign in to your site. Comment on these pages with the browser extension, which uses your own browser session, or add the embed toolbar to the site.
Local development sites
Addresses like localhost, 127.0.0.1, *.local and *.test run on your machine, so Notemark cannot reach them. The canvas shows Running on your machine. Use the browser extension on the local page. Comments still match the page across different ports.
What reviewers see when a page cannot load
When the proxy cannot load a page but someone has commented on it with the extension, the canvas shows the latest screenshot they captured, labelled with when it was taken. This works for up to 20 pages per canvas.
Password-protected Shopify stores
Enter the store password inside the canvas once. Notemark saves it, encrypted, on that canvas, so other reviewers are not asked for it.
"Too many requests"
The proxy allows 60 requests a minute per workspace. Wait a moment and refresh the page.
Share link problems
- Link Expired: the link passed its expiry date. Ask the canvas owner for a new link.
- Link Not Found: the link was removed or regenerated. Ask for the current link.
- This canvas is currently unavailable: the workspace that owns it has a billing problem.
The extension icon shows ! or •
! means the page does not allow extensions, such as browser settings pages. • means the tab moved to another site; click the icon again.
